ARTIST STATEMENT

My art is rooted in the colors, rhythms, and experiences of my formative years in Jamaica and my life in America. Art has always given me a way to express emotions and experiences that words cannot fully capture.

Through vibrant color and a blend of abstract and figurative forms, I explore connections between nature, memory, and cultural identity. My paintings celebrate my Caribbean heritage while reflecting the places and experiences that continue to shape me. By translating my original paintings into wearable art, I also invite people to bring that creativity into their everyday lives.

My practice continues to evolve through curiosity, experimentation, and lifelong learning. At its heart is a desire to create work that sparks feeling, invites connection, and celebrates the beauty around us.

BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Nicole Bent Jones is an artist, designer, and higher education professional whose work reflects her Caribbean heritage and life in America. Combining abstract and figurative elements, her practice spans painting, multimedia illustration, and wearable art created from her original paintings.

She holds a Doctor of Business Administration in Financial Management, a Master of Fine Arts in Design and Technology from Parsons School of Design, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art from The University of Texas at Austin, where she also pursued pre-medical studies. She further developed her painting practice in Paris under Bulgarian artist Dimitar Yukanov.

Nicole’s work has been exhibited in the United States, Jamaica, France, and Germany. Her professional experience includes multimedia illustration for The University of Texas Cancer Center, Baylor College of Medicine, and the Texas Natural Resource Commission.

As the founder of Nicole’s Art, she brings together her experience in art, education, design, and business. Her commitment to cultural connection extends to her community leadership as President of the Jamaica Foundation of Houston and co-host of Link Up Live, a weekly platform connecting and informing the Jamaican diaspora.
